Alanis Morrisette’s Open Air Theatre concert was a phenomenal tour de force. July 5th, with support from The Big Moon.

Alanis Morissette’s performance at Scarborough Open Air Theatre was a memorable evening that showed why her music continues to connect with audiences decades after her breakthrough. Set against the unique backdrop of the outdoor venue, the concert created an impressive combination of nostalgia, energy and emotional connection, with fans responding enthusiastically throughout the night.

Support act The Big Moon played with confidence, their mix of indie rock hooks and uplifting anthems had plenty of fans dancing. They delivered an excellent support set that was full of energy, musicianship and personality. They were the ideal choice to kick off the evening and left the audience eager for more. Frontwoman Juliette Jackson was charismatic throughout, interacting warmly with the audience and encouraging singalongs, while the rest of the band delivered a tight, polished performance.

Before Alanis even stepped foot on the stage, the ambience felt electric. The open-air setting added a special atmosphere, with the crowd gathered under the evening sky creating a shared musical experience beyond simply a concert. There was a strong sense of anticipation as fans waited to hear songs that have become the soundtrack to their lives. The audience’s reaction throughout the performance was passionate, with loud cheers, singing along and a genuine appreciation for every moment.

The production complemented the performance extremely well. The sound quality allowed Alanis’s distinctive voice and the power of the band to shine through clearly, balancing the intensity of the guitars with the emotion of the vocals. The lighting design added to the drama of the show, with changing colours and stage effects helping to build the mood of each song. More energetic moments were enhanced by brighter, more dynamic lighting, while the quieter sections benefited from a more intimate atmosphere.

Vocally, Alanis was impressive, delivering the raw emotion and honesty that have always been central to her music. Her voice retained the character and strength that fans have loved since the 1990s, moving effortlessly between powerful rock moments and more vulnerable performances. Songs filled with personal reflection were delivered with genuine feeling, making the connection between performer and audience particularly strong.

Alanis displayed a characteristically energetic stage presence. She moved around the stage with enthusiasm, confidence and a sense of freedom, appearing completely engaged with the music and the crowd.  That crowd played a huge part in making the evening special: fans sang along to familiar lyrics, cheered between songs and created an atmosphere of celebration. The connection between Alanis and the audience was clear, with both sides feeding off the energy of the other.

A powerful and enjoyable performance with excellent vocals, impressive production, a vibrant atmosphere and a performer who brought great energy to the stage, it was a night that left fans feeling both entertained and inspired.
