February was upon us as Brid’ On The Map made its return for the first outing of the year at The Stirling Castle. Headliners Follow Deep took centre stage, supported by the energetic performances of Bad Panda and Fragile Acts, ensuring the candle of enthusiasm never wavered but burned brighter.

The entrance to The Stirling Castle set the tone, bathing the room in a warm glow. As coats were shrugged off and pints glowed as they caught the light, the air charged with anticipation. The slow build of excitement in the room soon turned into a roaring fire, fuelling the crowd throughout an unforgettable night.

Fragile Acts

Fragile Acts, a compelling alternative/modern rock band hailing from Hull, were the first to take the stage. Their name hints at the band’s glass-edge vulnerability, but beneath they hold a strength, like steel wrapped in silk. Their performance was a careful balance of raw energy and considered dynamics, with each note delivered with anticipation and precision. Their signature style seamlessly blended gritty alt-rock with reflective, melodic passages, ensuring every moment was both impactful and emotionally charged.

Fragile Acts’ powerful guitar riffs shaped their sound, supported by vigorous drums and bass, shifting effortlessly between upbeat sections and delicate moments. This restraint demonstrated the band’s commitment to serving the song, rather than overpowering it. Distinct vocals and striking harmonies captivated listeners sparking goosebump moments, while their set combined emotional depth with atmospheric and heavy passages. As openers, they not only warmed up the room but unequivocally proved themselves a band to watch.

Bad Panda

Local band Bad Panda made a triumphant return to the stage after a 13-year hiatus, now featuring a new bassist. Their set was brimming with energy, displaying tight rhythms and punchy hooks that immediately grabbed the audience’s attention. The band’s infectious, slightly chaotic intensity burst into life from the very first note, electrifying the audience with scrappy, punch-the-air energy.

As the set progressed, momentum steadily built, with irresistible choruses that lingered in listeners’ minds long after the first hearing. The crowd did not need long to catch on; heads were nodding, feet tapping, and by the middle of the set it felt like the room had been wound up and set spinning. Gritty vocals, strong riffs, and a unified rhythm section kept the pace intense throughout. The whole rhythm section moved like a single engine, giving the songs a tight, urgent momentum that never let the set drop. A highlight of the night was Bad Panda’s new single, ‘Don’t Tell,’ now on all streaming platforms. Their comeback left the audience energized, making it clear they intend to stay.

Follow Deep

By the time our headliners stepped onto the stage, the night was primed. Follow Deep stepped into the space like seasoned architects of atmosphere. The room had already been warmed but they wasted no time in turning the temperature up another notch. The band was clearly comfortable on the stage. They settled into their groove instantly, as if returning to a second home.

Guitars shaped the music with a mix of ambient textures and dynamic riffs, creating a layered sound. The bass anchored everything warmly without overpowering. Drums played a pivotal role. Full disclosure: I have a personal connection to the drummer, so I am obliged to say he was brilliant… but bias aside his crisp snares and energetic fills elevated the performance. Vocally, the performance stood out for its clarity and distinctive tone, cutting cleanly through the instrumentation.

Follow Deep’s set featured their newest single, ‘Haunted’, now streaming everywhere. The song started with a darker vibe, building into a powerful chorus as the guitars and rhythm drove the almost stalking progression. The band pulled the crowd into their orbit; we were all following. The band’s tight performance and confident vocals created a strong connection with the audience, bringing the evening to a cohesive and energetic close.
