This episode is a very interlinked, intertwined one, as you will see. We feature Unrehearsed Mayhem – Elliott Pelucci, Bryn Andrewd and Graham Rhodes – who open for us with a teaser of their enigmatic sound, as well as talk us through their formation and how the unrehearsed mayhem comes together, before treating us to a sample set.
Graham Rhodes – Wordsmith in the Mix – covers his early life and career, working as a graphic deisgner for bands including The Police and The Cramps amongst many other antics; then we bring things up to date with his more recent ofrays into novels and poetry, including the Wordsmiths Open Mic at Craft Bar, Scarborough, before we get two music-linked poems.
Three-quarters of Graham Watson – Elliott Pelucci (again!), Reece Houlden and Ruben Stradling, join us to talk us through their first year and upcoming album release, before treating us to two of their songs, Post Session Sunday Mission and 843.

So on to upcoming events, and we are going to cover as much as we can for December and January because we’ll be taking a little break from regular episodes over Christmas, but don’t worry because we are bringing you an epic extravaganza bonanza of a festive special during December!

5th December: next Beckview Lounge event, with Don’t Fret the Poet, Madeline May and Henri Gaston

The event is part of Scarborough Fair’s Winter Fringe Festival, there’s loads going on for that, the festival runs between 4th and 7th December, we’ll talk about some of the other Winter Fringe music events in a moment.
And as always, you can watch the live stream from home, but it’s really worth getting a ticket to come along and join us in the studio!

6th December during the Fringe has loads of great music, or musically-linked events.
Shanty band, the Saltburn Smugglers are also part of the Fringe, they’re at Filey’s Evron centre that day.
And on the same date at Craft Bar is Through the Window, directed by Megan Hanson. It will feature poetry, writing and music, starting at 7pm and it’s a Pay What You Feel event.
Skysteamer to Athens: Steampunk Storytelling Extravaganza, in the YMCA’s Lloyd Dowson Room – Two musicians and one poet combining to create a spontaneous, chilled laid back 2 hour performance of beats, raps, poetry and eclectic music.
Unrehearsed Mayhem are part of the Fringe too – 7th December for that one, at Craft Bar. There’s also lots of other events going on, comedy events such as The Isolation Creations, Big Queer Fringe workshops with winter crafting and solstice songs, and Wizarding Workshops with Dan Parker – who we met back on episode one with Reverie – where you can make the most fabulous glitter sharks, as seen in exhibitions for Scarborough Fair earlier this year.

Our brilliant food sponsors The Crescent Lounge are open to celebrate for Christmas parties – so if you still haven’t booked one, there’s still time! – and there will be live entertainment on every Thursday-Sunday throughout December; mulled wine is back on, mince pies, hot chocolate, festive specials on the menu.

They’ve also got live entertainment on every day between boxing day and new year, everything will be listed on their socials/website, but we can mention that they have the fabulous Best Served Cold on New Year’s Eve, and it’s open to all, free entry!

The Cask and Keg: Friday 5th Shreds, a hardcore punk band from Sheffield, UK Inspired by 80s US Hardcore
Friday 12th acoustic showcase night with Jez Echevarria, Adie Sanders and Liam Caine.
Boxing Day is a Luminate special, Luminate is their monthly dance music event, the Boxing Day bonanza will kick off at 3pm.

Bridlington’s Stirling Castle have live music every weekend, with Brid on the Map on 12th December featuring original acts Spangled, and January Jam, and their New Year’s Eve party features covers band the Costellos.

Scarborough’s Mojo’s Music Cafe’s regular acoustic sessions on Wednesdays and Saturdays will include Broken Oak, Elizabeth and Jameson, The Blow Ins, Sharon Maher, Jenny Bray and Annie & King, throughout December.

North Sea Sound Check – Beckview Studios – Yorkshire Coast Gigs mash-up Christmas party!
At The Crescent Lounge! Open to anyone to come along, we’re very much ‘Off Duty’ but we’d love to see familiar faces, chat to friends and associates across the scene, and just share some festive cheer with anyone who fancies coming down – and if you’re feeling musical, why not come and play a song? Studio tech Charlie is going to be managing a nice, chilled out open mic through the evening, so come and join us!
That’s Saturday 13th December at the Crescent Lounge, from 8.30pm onwards, so be there!

Industry news: Beckview Studios appears in the brand-new This Is Music 2025 report, with a photo taken by David Ruston, local music photographer, Yorkshire Coast Gigs CIC Director and of course, North Sea Soundcheck photographer.
Kristina talks us through details from the report, which is UK Music’s annual economic review of the entire music industry in the UK.
On the positive side, the industry contributed a record £8 billion to the UK economy in 2024, with exports of £4.8 billion.
And employment is also at a record high, around 220,000 full-time equivalent roles.
However, growth has significantly slowed. And there are serious concerns around AI and how creators’ work is being used. Around 90% of surveyed musicians said they want, and are calling for, stronger protections. It’s also taking artists longer to break through, and post-Brexit touring in Europe remains difficult and expensive.
The government have committed up to £10 million a year for the next three years through something called the Music Growth Package. That’s designed to support touring, exports, mentoring and grassroots development.
Essentially, it’s meant to give emerging and mid-level artists better access to international opportunities and industry pathways.
Tom Kiehl, UK Music’s Chief Executive, highlighted AI and EU touring as two areas where change is needed quickly to protect the industry’s long-term stability.
His message is essentially: we’re strong, but we’re at a turning point.

January events, and band news for 2026.
The Crescent Lounge. On 17th of January they have The Guy Miller Band, a young indie band from Glasgow making their Scarborough debut and playing with Brid punks, Tempersflare.
On Jan 24th they’ve got Lunar Rebellion, a female fronted rock group from Scarborough and Pickering.
Then on the 31st of January they have an awareness night in aid of Andy’s Man Club, so there’ll be lots of artists/acts, and representatives from the club talking about what they do and a great night of music!

We have had some bands get in touch – we love that by the way, don’t ever stop – to give us the gossip on their album plans for the coming months:
Argham, our amazing prog rockers from Bridlington, are recording an album, and Blim Burn – young experimental soul and jazz from Brid and Scarbs are also working on a self-titled album, so go follow them on instagram for updates.

Rocketsmith, whose video we played earlier, will have an album out in the first half of 2026

Feral Family have a new single, Down in the Dirt, out now, and their new EP should drop in early 2026.

Recent releases you should definitely go and check out: Scarborough punk duo Active Minds not only celebrate 40 years since formation on New Year’s Day, but their album, Things That Cannot Be Unseen, is now available.

Hull’s Pavey Ark have a new album out now. For a dose of Alternative folk, check out More Time, More Speed, and we’re going to play you a video of one of the album tracks in just a moment.
We play their video, Yesterday is Done, and if you feel like you’ve seen some of the artwork before, well you might have done! This video features artwork by Annabel McCourt from her touring exhibition titled I’m Sorry, – this video was shot at Humber Street Gallery in Hull, and the artwork recently toured to Scarborough’s Old Parcels Office, and it looks amazing in this video.
