Beth Pilling – we turned the tables on our own Beth, to chat about the upcoming single launch with her band, Beth Pilling and the Bootleggers. The Cure launch party will be at The Crescent Lounge, Scarborough, on 8th November, hear a solo preview right here on the show!
Fletcher Fathoms – A musician since his youth across many genres and continents, Fletcher talked us through his more recent forays, exploring work with Killing Joke’s Youth, Boy George and Dark Globe records, Holeg Spies, Sheffield producer Celt Islam and much more – a comprehensive set of links to explore this and more can be found below.
This House We Built – three-quarters of the Scarborough / Pickering rock outfit joined us to talk about their upcoming album, recent single releases, homecoming gig and tour tales! We feature their video for recent single, Addiction.
Jericho Keys – the host of BBC Introducing York and Humberside joined us to talk about his career path, what he listens for in upcoming music, mental health and music, music, music.
Caterpillar Spies – Hull-based seven piece supergroup Caterpillar Spies introduced us to their wide array of players and instruments, talked about their favourite festivals and gigs so far, and played us out with the gorgeous ‘Apples and Pumpkins’.

October has been another great month for local music, with industry events, announcements, new releases and of course, some great gigs. Kath had been at most of the Friday originals nights at the Cask Club, great variety of acts, nice to see such regular and varied original music; and I also got to something a little different, which was Bez in Conversation at the Crescent Lounge, with Panic Band playing beforehand, doing some Manchester / Oasis covers.
Just that morning, Kristina was on an industry panel for the Music Industry Yorkshire Expo in Doncaster.
The event was held at Higher Rhythm Headquarters. Higher rhythm is a regional creative hub that offers a wide range of services for artists, students, and community members.
They founded the organisation Music Industry Yorkshire, a resource for the region to share ideas, jobs, & opportunities. The panel discussion was “Finding Your Niche”, which explored how staying true to your vision can help forge a successful career in the music industry. Kristina was there alongside Ellie Giles from STEP Music Management and Danni S, also known as music artist Dirty Freud. The discussions were chaired by Zawedde Walusimbi from Higher Rhythm.
Beth has been standing in as a host on Indie Tea Talk, another YouTube podcast which we can highly recommend.
Kath had been at the 30th anniversary Alice in Thunderland gig, under the banner of Bridstock Festival, and was wearing a band t-shirt, kindly gifted by Kala from the band. Held at the Black Lion in Brid, an historic building well suited to this sort of event, it featured local youngsters Broken Oak who also make up Blim Burn, as well as the superb Hot Rockets, Six Feet Below and Affliction. Beckview’s Lounge event series of live recorded gigs in October showcased incredible grassroots musicians from across the region: indie group Sandra’s wedding from Goole, then the incredibly humble Matt Hooper, a multi award winning songwriter who’s work has received international acclaim and a Billboard number one, and headlining the evening was Leeds based emerging singer-songwriter Romy Taylor appearing with full band blending contemporary jazz, neo-soul, and pop, highlighting the amazing talent coming out of Leeds Conservatoire.

1st November: Trusted Sauce with DJ’s Hans Umlaut and Ill Spekta;
7th November: punk night with Reina Roja bringing Celtic Folk Punk all the way from Madrid, joined by Captain South America, Orchard and Jenkem Revolt – Orchard have a new album out, check out Argentum released on Cruel Nature records; and we are expecting Jenkem Revolt’s album very soon, too.
14th November: Under 18s young talent showcase – that starts at 6pm, expected to be five acts on the evening including all-female four-piece Socket. 14+ and under 18s must have adult accompaniment.
15th November: Mark Starkey’s Tunnel Club Indie Night, look up Supernova Indie on facebook, nostalgia for the nineties indie kids!
21st November: Album Launch for Active Minds – the punk legends from Scarborough celebrate 40 years as an outfit in January, and laucnh their album, Things That Cannot Be Unseen, at this event. We’ll be putting on the YCG website soon, so keep an eye out for that. They’ll be supported by two other amazing local bands, Serial Killer Glasses, whose own album, The Fair and Equal Establishment, was released last month, and the brilliant Bear Away – don’t miss it.
Jack Williams has a new album, On A Quiet Earth, coming out on 28th November, it will be available on a number of streaming platforms. Jack is also in a band called Stargazer, who play mostly covers but do have some original material, including The Song That All Know True – they’ll be performing that at Hunmanby Battle of the Bands on 8th November. Good luck!

17th November at St Mary’s Church, Allison Lupton, Shane Cook and Kyle Waymouth which is set to feature beautiful story songs, electrifying fiddle playing and dazzling step dance!

Pickering rock band Rocketsmith have revealed a new five-piece line up and they will be performing at Pickering Recreation Club on Friday 28th November, so get your tickets booked as we predict this one will sell out.
Whitby-based Goth band Westenra held a launch party for their new album with an event in Leeds in early October, the album, called Burn Me Once, comes out on Bonfire Night, with their single, Time, available to listen now on all major streaming platforms.
Brid on the Map at the Stirling Castle: Friday 21st November will feature returning favourites Slackrr and Shindig, with support from punk-rock quartet Socket making their Bridlington debut.
Gig at the Railway Club in Scarborough for Amnesty coming up on November 21st from 7pm, acts will include Unrehearsed Mayhem, Nathan Badger, Cultural Connections, Jack Robertson, and DJ Sets, with the evening hosted by poet Bearded Tit aka Stuart Ackroyd.
Brid Old Town’s Yuletide Festival on 30th November includes live music at the Queens, the line up will feature Fin Hines, Charlotte Lammiman, Keir Lammas, Alex Czapla and Edge of 13’s Kris Mac!
The Crescent Lounge Scarborough has some ticketed events coming up, in November they’ve got Old Red Eyes, a tribute to Paul Heaton. Book via the Crescent Lounge website.
Hull-based folk collective Pavey Ark drop their second album, More Time, More Speed on 21st November; they’ve previously played the Glastonbury Acoustic Stage, Cambridge Folk Festival and had 4 showcases at SXSW 2025. It’s a concept record built around time, how it bends, distorts, and shapes our lives; sitting in the space between alt-folk and modern chamber folk’ they recorded it in a converted farm building near Hull and we’re told that the changing season and even the cows next door make their way onto the record!
Bridlington singer, songwriter and performer Becky Arundel will make a rare hometown appearance at The Stirling Castle on November 14th, with a selection of stripped back originals and covers.
Beckview Studios will be heading to BAFTA qualifying Aesthetica Film Festival in York this month taking place from 5th -9th November. The studio will be appearing at the Guildhall, York as part of the Unesco City of Media Arts Expo alongside over 40 pioneering businesses in film, sound, XR, publishing and design. If you’re over in York, come down and say hi to us there!
On Saturday 8th November we’ll also be checking out the bands playing on the festival’s New Music Stage – Ten breakthrough artists will take to the stage, spanning genres from indie and soul to hip-hop and experimental pop – including Pleasure Centre featuring our own Charlie Hunter , assistant here at the studio and one of last months North Sea Soundcheck’s previous featured guests.
Scarlet Dusk have a gig at Drum Shack on 7th November, do check them out!
Moving onto some early mentions for December, Saltburn Smugglers have announced a Christmas Cruise aboard the Teesside Princess on Sunday 14th December, their last cruise event sold out so get your tickets booked for that festive treat of classic shanties, new songs of the sea and some special Christmas hits.
Full line up yet to be announced for the Beckview Lounge event in December but can confirm emerging indie folk artist Madeline May will be performing. It’s also worth mentioning that this Lounge forms part of the programme for the Winter Fringe festival overseen by the wonderful Scarborough Fair so it’s worth checking out the rest of their programme of events too.
