Scarborough Borough Council in association with National Holidays is excited to announce that Scarborough Open Air Theatre will step back in time on Saturday 1 August 2015 for a very special concert featuring seven of the most popular names of the electric pop era.

Returning for a second year to the North Yorkshire venue will be Rick Astley, who will be joined by Sinitta, ABC, Go West, Five Star and Undercover. Bringing the whole show together will be former BBC Radio 1 and BBC Top of the Pops presenter, Pat Sharp.

Rick Astley holds the record for being the only male solo artist to have his first eight singles reach the Top 10 in the UK and by 1993, has sold around 40 million records. His first solo single, ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ was an immediate success spending five weeks at the top of the British Charts and was a number one hit worldwide. He has released six albums, won the ‘Best Act Ever’ award at the MTV Europe Music Awards and had his own radio show on Magic FM.

30 years in show business, record sales in the millions, 14 international hits, star of the West End and 1000’s of live gigs…there is only on Sinitta. It was with the release of her classic hit, ‘So Macho’, in 1986 that Sinitta won the hearts of the British public. The track rapidly rose to number 2 in the UK charts, selling over half a million records in the UK and 1 million worldwide, spending a massive 28 weeks in the charts. More celebrated singles were followed by a glittering West End career, numerous television appearances as a prime time presenter and let’s not forget the last decade Sinitta has spent alongside Simon Cowell as a mentor and guest judge on the X Factor UK.

ABC, featuring consummate show-man Martin Fry, has enjoyed a glittering career to date. The band’s debut album ‘The Lexicon of Love’ was acknowledged as the greatest British pop LP of its decade, and remains one of the 10 best of all time. While it might be twenty seven years since that release, ABC audiences and the press all say that the energy and the vocals of the band today easily match what they put out back in the 80s, giving audiences worldwide a great night of music and entertainment.

Go West, a partnership between Peter Cox and Richard Drummie, is one of the greatest singer-songwriter duos to emerge from the 80′s. The band boasts a string of international top 10 hits including ‘We Close Our Eyes’, ‘Call Me’ and ‘King of Wishful Thinking’. Still going strong today, the duo released their first studio album in over 10 years, ‘Future Now’, earlier this year.

The members of Five Star have been performing together for 31 years, with 32 top 100 hits on the Tent Records Label. The group has sold over 10 million albums around the world without ever having toured outside the UK. ‘Luxury of Life’ reached the UK Top 5, selling over one million copies and went gold in the USA on the strength of the Top 20 British smash, the Grammy nominated single ‘All Fall Down’/First Avenue’.

Also making a second return to the Open Air Theatre is 1990’s group Undercover. The group’s first single, a cover version of Gerry Rafferty’s 1978 UK/U.S. hit ‘Baker Street became their biggest hit when it reached number 2 in the UK Singles Chart in September 1992. The second single was a cover of Andrew Gold’s ‘Never Let Her Slip Away’. It reached number 5, and stayed in the UK chart for a total of 11 weeks.

With more than 30 years live television and radio experience and the ability to entertain an audience of fans of all ages, Pat Sharp is sure to get the Scarborough audience in the mood to party to the very best hits from the 1980s and 1990s.
