A Beautiful Day at the Seaside

Scarborough Spa are delighted to announce a brand-new gig, “A Beautiful Day at the Seaside”.

Featuring a host of artists, including Jess Silk, The Bar Stool Preachers, Pop Will Eat Itself and headlined by the Levellers!

English rock group the Levellers are an English folk rock and anarcho-punk band formed in Brighton, East Sussex, in 1988, consisting of Mark Chadwick (guitar and vocals), Jeremy Cunningham (bass guitar), Charlie Heather (drums), Jon Sevink (violin), Simon Friend (guitar and vocals), Matt Savage (keyboards) and Dan Donnelly (guitar and vocals). Taking their name from the Levellers political movement, the band released their first EP in 1989 and LP in 1990, with international success following upon signing to China Records and the release of their second album Levelling the Land. The band were among the most popular indie bands in Britain in the early 1990s, and performed at the Glastonbury Festival, first in 1992, then in 1994, where they performed as the headline act on The Pyramid Stage to a record crowd of 300,000 people. They continue to record and tour today!

The Bar Stool Preachers are a ska-punk band from Brighton, UK that mixes punk anthems with love songs. The Bar Stool Preachers music is described as a blend of ska-punk roots with a desire to break boundaries and push the envelope. The band’s name and experiences have allowed them to create a unique combination of music that’s both intelligent and infectious.

Pop Will Eat Itself are an English alternative rock band formed in 1986 in Stourbridge in the West Midlands of England with members from Birmingham, Coventry and the Black Country. Initially known as a grebo act, they changed style to incorporate sample-driven indie and industrial rock. Graham Crabb describes their sound as “electronic, punk, alternative hip-hop, hybrid music for fucking, fighting & smoking cigars”. Their highest-charting single was the 1993 top-ten hit “Get the Girl! Kill the Baddies!”. After initially disbanding in 1996, and having a brief reformation in 2005, they issued their first release in more than five years in 2010.

Jess Silk is a guitarist, singer and songwriter from the Black Country. Her shouty but melodic brand of folk/punk music often has her being likened to a female Frank Turner or Billy Bragg, and it gets people sitting up and listening. Armed only with an increasingly sticker-covered acoustic guitar and a distinctive, gravelly voice that many don’t expect, Jess plays to audiences up and down the country and has shared stages with many well-known names among the folk/punk scene.
