Beverley’s Garnish have been showcasing local music regularly with Sunday live sets; Beth Pilling dropped by during Beverley Folk Festival to find out what they had going on.
On Sunday 22nd June, I made my way through to Beverley primarily to check out Beverley Folk Festival, but I find it impossible to visit Beverley without popping my head in to Garnish Coffee and Cocktail Bar on Wednesday Market. A light and cozy yet somewhat spacious bar at the heart of Beverley.
When I arrived, there were people at every table and I was warmly welcomed by Adam and Shelly, always lovely to see them! The seating area outside was completely full on this sunny Sunday – and you can expect every Sunday will be the same from now on as the sun shows its face more.
On this particularly busy Sunday, I was able to squeeze in a quick chat with Adam about the bar and what this pretty little place means to him. One thing that stood out is his passion for local business. The bar stocks locally sourced snacks, beer, cakes, etc. It’s always lovely to see local businesses supporting each other and Garnish is a prime example of how this should be done.
Adam gave me an exclusive insight into events happening in the bar and he’s currently working towards a country themed all-dayer at Garnish, offering something different to entertain his loyal locals (date tbc).
Something else that shone through whilst talking to Adam is how versatile he strives for this space to be; you could come to have a coffee and a chat on a Tuesday afternoon and sing along to some tunes on a Sunday. [There’s even a club night coming up on 1st August…] It’s a dynamic and vibrant environment. Funnily enough, we had this conversation and as a customer was leaving, they pulled Adam aside to say they love coming to Garnish: ‘It’s absolutely delightful, there’s a bit of everything here!’ Nice one Adam and Shelly, mission accomplished!
Throughout the summer, Garnish will also be hosting pop-up kitchens in collaboration with local restaurants, further supporting local businesses and adding to the vibrancy and versatility of this space.
There is live music here every Sunday, 3-5pm; on the week I visited we were graced by the folky goodness of Scarborough’s Jack Robertson! Jack played a lovely array of covers and originals ranging from Zach Bryan, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and everything in between, he set the vibe for a relaxing afternoon of music which you could enjoy with coffee, beer, cocktail, whatever takes your fancy, Garnish has it all.
To top it all off, Garnish is also dog friendly. Every time I go, I meet so many lovely poochies.
Garnish hosts music every Sunday 3-5pm, Adam and Shelly welcome any musicians to reach out to them about booking gigs, contact them through Instagram to enquire about bookings.
