Mick Simpson

Solid Entertainments are delighted to announce the first acts for Whitby Blues Festival 2016, which comes to the Whitby Pavilion on Sunday 2 October.

Manchester based Kyla Brox is the very latest to be announced. Kyla's voice remains a stunning example of the soul singer's art, turning up the heat by degrees, lulling and charming before unleashing emotional catharsis, and blurring the distinction between pleasure and pain like the soul greats of old. She is without doubt the most authentic UK blues and soul singer of her generation.

The four-piece Blue Swamp Band are also set to play. Formed by songwriting duo Johnny ‘Guitar’ Williamson (former guitarist with The Animals and Friends) and Mike Bowden (vocalist with Dr Truth), their unique sound has been enhanced with the addition of a red hot rhythm section Big Vern and Jim Moseley.

Original songs encompass elements from a variety of genres, while remaining rooted in the blues. Four part harmonies and hilarious between song ramblings all add to the experience that is Blue Swamp.

Mick Simpson, the unsung hero of UK Blues will also be making an appearance. Initially coming to public notice when playing with Elkie Brooks in the 1980s, his playing became highly recognised and he was in demand. Writing music with John Parr (St.Elmo's Fire), which was featured in several Hollywood movies.

With more acts yet to be announced, this is set to be one of the finest Whitby Blues Festivals yet!
