The Spa Orchestra

The dates for Scarborough Spa Orchestra's 2016 summer season have now been announced.

The legendary orchestra will continue the 104 year tradition from 6 June to 8 September, with nine entirely different concerts every week – including a welcomed return of the Sunday Afternoon Concert.

Once again the Morning concerts will bring a musical start to The Spa's day from Sunday to Thursday, with the Evening Concerts taking place on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Of course, Thursday evenings will continue to be the centrepiece to the orchestra's week with the ever-popular Gala Night. Special guest vocalists will be at the heart of these performances, creating a magical concert that always wows the crowd.

It's good news for parents too as the Teddy Bears' Picnics will replace the usual Monday morning concerts from 4 July to 29 August. Hosted by Kathy Seabrook, these performances introduce youngsters to the magic of music and how the instruments work. There's plenty of audience participation in these fun-filled sessions.

The Sunday Morning Concerts will have a small twist, with a 'Pay What You Think' scheme in place. As the name suggests, guests can pay what they think – with contributions going to assist the continued support of the Orchestra.

A key alteration to this year's programing is the return of the Sunday Afternoon Concert, which will be a welcomed addition. Day visitors will now be able to enjoy two outstanding performances on the same day.

The Sunday Spa Carvery will also be back on the menu. Guests will be able to enjoy a delicious meal in the Suncourt prior to the afternoon performance.

Paul Laidlaw, the Musical Director of the Orchestra will be introducing new music and arrangements for this new season. The programme is yet to be confirmed but it's guaranteed to be an exciting mix of new melodies and old favourites.

Perhaps the best news of all is that last year's ticket prices have been held for the coming summer season, including season tickets which represent amazing value for money.
Jo Ager, General Manager of Scarborough Spa said "The Spa is proud of the fact we host the UK's only remaining professional seaside orchestra and we are delighted with the return of the Sunday Afternoon Concert.

"The Spa Orchestra is still a major draw for both Scarborough residents and visitors to the town and we are looking to welcoming more faces throughout the summer months."
