Zenith Nadir
Zenith Nadir hail from Mexico, currently touring the UK with their eclectic, upbeat sound.  They are appearing at the Hole in the Wall, Scarborough, on Friday 19th July. We caught up with them to find out more about what we can expect.
Tell us a little bit about each member of the band first of all, their personality and style?
Zenith Nadir - Lead Singer - is a dynamic person, with many changes, but always keeping a balance - equilibrium! Positive. Style: Kitsch, elegant, deep.
Selina - Violinist, backing vocals - a calm, positive, happy, tough person.  Style: Elegant Casual.
Emmanuel - Keyboards, Bass Guitar, Programming - Happy, stubborn, hard-working, positive. Style: 90s Chic.
All three of us are positive, hard working, dreamers who strive to achieve our goals.
You're from Mexico originally, what prompted the UK tour? Where have you toured to already?
Everything started out as something that we wanted to achieve, our violinist is originally from Yorkshire and lives in Mexico, she hadn't been back for 6 years and so we saw it as a work opportunity to do live gigs and promote our music, as well as to visit the violinist's family in Yorkshire, spend some time visiting the area, combining all these things.  At the moment we've produced 3 albums so far, titled "Revolucion Evolucion 2012", "El despertar de luz brillante" and "Parallel Lives". (Available in digital stores like itunes, amazon etc. through Believe Digital UK). Our first gig was at Leven Real Ale Festival and it was excellent, very enjoyable for us and the audience loved it.  So far we have visited Beverley, Hull, Leven, Patrington and Scarborough.  The countryside is amazing and the infrastructure of the towns is very artistic, like in the films on TV.  We feel llike we're in a movie!  The air is fresh and clean every day, the food and the friendliness of the people who welcome us is really great.
Is there anything, other than playing, that you're enjoying about visiting Scarborough?
At Scarborough the beach is amazing, and different to what we're used to, like a painting.  We tried Fish and Chips - a British Classic. Wonderful.
What are your influences, what music inspires you?
Zenith's influences are Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath, Bob Marley, Rod Stewart, Moby, The Cure... Well-played music in all different genres is what inspires him.
Selina is inspired by classical music, which she played as a young person, some jazz music, traditional melodies, world music and also rock music - any music which inspires her is that which makes you feel something, music that moves you.
Emmanuel's influences include Depeche Mode, The Beatles, Daft Punk, Moby, Bjork. The fusion of different styles was based on our varied musical tastes, they made us realise that music is universal, it's fun, and combining the genres created something new which could be a turning point or something important in music history.  This is from our point of view - we include Latin and European rhythms in our music therefore a link between cultures.
How did the band form, and how long has it been together?
Zenith had written many poems and keyboard player Emmanuel was in another band which was breaking up; he started to read them and felt a connection with the words.  Zenith asked him to put music to one of the poems. Selina, who had known Zenith for a number of years, also liked the song and they decided to formally create the band.  We have been together for 4 years now.
